Additive Tannins in Ruminant Nutrition: An Alternative to Achieve Sustainability in Animal Production
نویسندگان
چکیده
Sustainable intensification involves maintaining ecosystem balance and increasing productivity per animal unit area. Phytogenic additives can be used as an alternative to achieve sustainable intensification. Tannins are phenolic compounds present in plants that classified according their chemical structure into hydrolyzable condensed compounds. When added ruminant diets, tannins exert effects on rumen fermentation, such a reduction protein degradation enteric methane production of dry matter ingested, may also improve weight gain. The advantage this mechanism is it increases dietary utilization, reduces nitrogen excretion urine, nitrous oxide emissions. However, the positive these nutritional require further investigation. Therefore, objective review demonstrate results hitherto known use nutrition. result both negative effects, depending sources doses administered.

Review. Tannins and ruminant nutrition
Tannins are a complex group of polyphenolic compounds found in a wide range of plant species commonly consumed by ruminants. They are conventionally classified into two major groups: the hydrolysable and the condensed tannins. Although for a long time tannins were thought to be detrimental to ruminants, their effect may be either beneficial or harmful depending on the type of tannin consumed, i...
متن کاملGarlic: An Alternative to Antibiotics in Poultry Production, A Review
In last decade, the uncontrolled use of antibiotics as growth promoter for livestock has led to the appearance of antibiotic-resistant pathogens and increased risk of infectious diseases. This situation has triggered intensive research efforts to find safe alternative strategies. Certainly, the plants and vegetables and their derivatives as natural safe substances could be good candidates in th...
متن کاملThe Effect of Medicinal Plants as a Feed Additive in Ruminant Nutrition
Since the use of antibiotics in animal feeds has been banned, researches on alternative natural products that modulate ruminal fermentation have been intensified. Natural compounds such as plant extracts have been considered to be replaced antibiotics as safe and sustainable alternatives. Plant extracts especially essential oils and saponins have strong antimicrobial, antiparasitic, antiprotozo...

This paper examines the nutritional and veterinary effects of tannins on ruminants and makes some comparisons with non-ruminants. متن کاملForage use to improve environmental sustainability of ruminant production.
Ruminants raised for meat and milk are important sources of protein in human diets worldwide. Their unique digestive system allows them to derive energy and nourishment from forages, making use of vast areas of grazing lands not suitable for arable cropping or biofuel production and avoiding direct competition for grain that can be used as human food. However, sustaining an ever-growing populat...
